Would you pay R2-million for the 'most powerful' M5 in SA?

Midrand – BMW South Africa has created a special edition of its fifth-generation M5 locally, boasting amazing performance that sets it apart from the standard sedan.

The BMW M5 Pure Metal Edition will be available in a limited number of 20 vehicles from October 2015.

This limited edition M5 is priced at  R1 948 000 (excluding CO2 tax).

Five sold already!

How many does BMW expect to sell? BMW SA confirms that some of its new M-badged cars has arrived locally while the majority are still on their way. Of the 20 limited cars, five have been already been sold.

0-100km/h in 3.9sec

Tweaks to the engine management system and an increase in charge pressure to the 4.4 litre V8 engine enables its to produce 441kW/700Nm (29kW more than the standard M5 and 18kW higher than the Competition Package).

It reaches 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 305km/h.

BMW SA says its Pure Metal is the "most powerful M5 yet to emerge from series production from BMW M GmbH.

This special edition benefits from Competition Package modifications as well as revised chassis set-up (with firmer spring/damper tuning), 10mm drop in ride height and the automaker's Active M Differential.

In addition, the steering with M specific Servotronic function has more direct mapping and the M Dynamic Mode of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system is focused even more on delivering sporty handling characteristics.

Carbon ceramic brakes are fitted as standard.

Visual impact

This special edition M5 uses pure metal silver metallic paint and 20” M double spoke alloy wheels.

To set itself apart from 'normal' M5's a plaque bearing ‘PURE METAL M5’ and ‘1/20’ inscription is placed on the dark aluminium trace interior trim.

Expect sports seats in full leather blue contrast stitching in BMW's Silverstone hue. The Comfort Access feature with smart opener, driving assist and lumbar support is also standard.
