Worth the wait? STI joins SA WRX stable

Following the launch of the new Subaru WRX in May 2014, the performance-tuned STI variant will arrive in South Africa in July 2014, albeit in limited numbers.

The new WRX STI will retail for R599 000, the same price as the outgoing model.

The WRX STI is powered by the automaker’s 221kW/407Nm 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer petrol mated to a six-speed manual. It’s equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel DriveT, multi-mode Driver-Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) and featured Active Torque Vectoring.

The STI is easily recognisable courtesy of its wide body kit, iconic spoiler and signature bonnet scoop.

The WRX STI achieved a five-star *ANCAP safety rating due to its safety features such as seven airbags and ring-shaped reinforcement frame.

'TO SELL OUT QUICKLY'

Subaru Southern Africa marketing manager, Ashley Lazarus, said: "The all-new WRX STI is set to be hot property in South Africa. Only 30 units will be available for 2014 and with pre-ordering now available through our dealer network we already have confirmed orders and expect the vehicles to sell out relatively quickly.

"Most impressive however is that the all-new, vastly improved WRX STI will retail for R599 000 - exactly the same price as the outgoing model. This reinforces our commitment of offering value, enjoyment and peace of mind to our customers who believe in our 'Confidence in Motion' philosophy."

The new Subaru WRX STI is sold with a three-year/100 000km warranty and Subaru's three-year or 75 000km maintenance plan, which can be extended.
