WOLFSBURG, Germany - Volkswagen's new Polo arrived, tech-jacked and with a GTI version sporting a 1.4 turbo engine, in South Africa in June 2014.
Now VW's HQ in Wolfsburg has revealed a second GTI, one with a 1.8 turbo Audi engine.
Perhaps, Wheels24 wonders, to stop friends from smirking when you tell them your GTI is a 1.4 even though it did make 132kW/250Nm? Anyway, the new car will be launched at the October 2014 Paris auto show and reach SA in early 2015 to replace the littler guy
According to VW, the 1.8-litre petrol is capable of 140kW/320Nm (it is, after all, the latter that matters) and can be mated to a six-speed manual or DSG transmission. SA's stock will comprise, initially, of a four-door hatch with a DSG box - the manual "is being considered for SA".
FASTER POLO GTI FOR SA
VW claims its Polo GTI reaches 100km in 6.7sec (improvement of 0.2sec) on to a top speed of 236km/h (up from 228km/h).
The GTI is equipped with a sport suspension (with adaptive control), spoiler, red signature badging, special bumpers and sports front seats similar to those offered in the Golf GTI.
It has a new front bumper and grille with a red strip running into the new headlights. At the rear its gains a redesigned bumper and tweaked tail lights. It also gets a new road-wheel design.
