WOLFSBURG, Germany - Volkswagen is working a range of new sports utility (SUV) vehicles, development chief Ulrich Hackenberg revealed to the German motoring gazette Automobilwoche.
A mini-SUV model will probably be slotted into the range below the current Tiguan, a VW spokesman said while confirming the report.
'NO FIRM DECISIONS... YET'
"We are considering expanding our SUV range but no firm decisions on production have been made yet," he added.
The new, smaller model, probably based on the Taigun concept shown at the 2012 Sao Paulo auto show, would compete head-on with the Opel Mokka and Nissan Juke.
According to Hackenberg another new VW offroader - pitched above the Tiguan - would be aimed principally at the US market. This seven-seater could be based on the US Passat platform.
