VW launches more diesel Polos in SA

The Polo Classic and five-door hatchback range has been expanded with the 74 kW 1.9 TDI engine. Previously this TDI engine was only available in the three-door Polo which now comes with a 96 kW 1.9 TDI unit.

The 1.9 TDI engine develops 74 kW at 4 000 r/min while its 240 Nm of torque is available between 1 800 and 2 400 r/min. Top speed for the Classic model is 188 km/h and 193 km/h for the hatchback version.

Combined fuel consumption for both derivatives are 4.9 litres per 100 km.

Both models are available in Highline trim which means that comfort features such as electric windows, semi-automatic air-conditioning, power steering and a radio/CD system are standard.

Active safety features includerash VW's Crash Optimised Pedal system, ABS brakes and lectronic brake pressure distribution (EBD).

On the passive safety side the Polo comes standard with safety belts, front belt tensioners and belt force limiters, Side-impact bars and driver and passenger airbags.
