VW has introduced a new medium commercial vehicle: the Crafter. Aimed at the 3.5 ton commercial van segment, the Crafter is available in four models, all powered by a five-cylinder 2.5-litre, common rail injection, turbo-diesel engine.
The new engine, available in both the Crafter 35 (3.5 ton gross weight), and 50 (5 ton gross weight) models, is offered in two states of tune producing either 80 kW or 125 kW. All models come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with its dashboard mounted joystick shifter freeing up interior space.
Further standard features include the usual acronyms - anti-lock brakes (ABS) and an electronic stability program (ESP). The Crafter interestingly also has an electronic differential lock.
With load compartments varying from 7.5 to 17 cubic metres, VW claims the Crafter to best its competitor's interior space by up to 25%.
