The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf will be launched in South Africa on January 31 2013 - we'll be there! - but VeeDub fans are already asking "What about the R version?"
Here's the answer: the German automaker has released its first (of many, to be sure) image of its Golf VII R concept.
However, instead of showing an indistinguishable close-up of the hot hatch it decided to take an esoteric path and froze the car in a block of ice.
216kW ON TAP
Despite its glacial camouflage, you can still spot (if you squint) the overall “R” styling.
Powering the car will be a 2.0 TFSI engine capable of 216kW mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG gearbox. The engine will send power to all four wheels through a Haldex all-wheel-drive system but the urge will be limited to 250km/h
Thawing will begin in February and the official unveiling will be made at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show.
Wheels24 will be covering the launch of the new Golf, so bookmark our New Models section to check out our upcoming launch report.
