Ultra concept, fastest Astra yet

  • Low-weight, high-power VXR derivative set for Geneva unveiling

  • Astra VXR Extreme base for future low-volume production run

LONDON, England - The Astra Extreme, derived from the 2013 Astra Cup race car that competed in the Nurburgring Endurance championship, is the street-legal race sibling to the current Astra VXR which, in standard form, produces 210kW and 400Nm of torque.

The Extreme’s natural environment will be the race track now that it has been shorn of weight thanks to the liberal use of high-quality carbon components,

An integrated safety structure, racing seats and six-point crash belts drive home the point.

GOOD TIMING

The Extreme’s timing couldn’t be better, since 2014 is 10 years since the VXR brand was launched. The Astra VXR is now the best-selling VXR and the UK and remains the largest market in Europe for Vauxhall and Opel’s most powerful models.

Opel says it will release more information about the Astra Extreme in February 2014 and the car will be inveiled at the 2014 Geneva auto show from March 4.

Opel South Africa says: "We will know more about the car's production plans after the car is unveiled at Geneva. However, because the car is left-hand drive, it's unlikely to be headed for SA. With all that said, it's a beautiful car."
