The new vehicles is immediately available and the 1.9 JTD Unijet retails for R235 000 and the 2.4 JTD Multijed has a price tag of R251 000.
According to Alfa the 2.4 JTD Multijet offers various benefits like lower noise levels as the engine warms up. It has a power output of 129 kW at 4 000 r/min and generous torque of 385 Nm at 2 000 r/min.
The new 20 valve unit is derived from the tried and tested 2.4 JTD 10 valve Common Rail unit and takes the form of a five cylinder in line unit
This 156 model reaches a top speed of 225 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. The 2.4 JTD Multijet 20v is mated to a new 6-speed manual gearbox.

According to Alfa Romeo the new 156 1.9 JTD Unijet is an "efficient entry-level diesel vehicle in the premium market". The engine produces 85 kW at 4 000 r/min and 275 Nm of torque at 2 000 r/min.

Both JTD models have a full after-sales backing in South Africa. Fiat Auto South Africa offers Alfa 156 owners a 12-month manufacturer warranty, unlimited mileage and an additional 24-month Dealer Extended Warranty or up to 100 000 km in total, three years on paintwork and five years on rust anti-perforation.
All Alfa Romeo 156's enjoy a 36month/60 000km maintenance plan.
Services are required at 20 000 km intervals.
