Triple threat: 3 shows, 3 Porsches

Macan SUV, 911 Turbo cabriolet, Panamera Turbo S... Porsche is set to launch three new models to premiere on the same day, November 20, at motor shows in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Guangzhou (China).

Porsche has a model assault planned with no no less than three new vehicles scheduled to premiere on the same day, November 20 2013, at motor shows in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Guangzhou (China).

THREE SHOWS, THREE PORSCHES

The star of ithe launch marathon will be Porsche's new Macan compact SUV, making its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Also making its global debut in the US will be the automaker's 911 turbo cabriolets, while the SA-bound Panamera Turbo S will be unveiled for the first time at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.

Keen to receive its share of the limelight will be the 918 Spyder, making an appearance for the first time in China and the US.

SA-BOUND PORSCHES

The Panamera Turbo S is powered by 4.8 twin-turbo V8 capable of 420kW/750Nm (800Nm available with overboost). Its twin-turbo V8 engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch, rockets the Turbo S from 0-100km/h in 3.8sec and on to its top speed of 307km/h. The Panamera Turbo S will reach South Africa in 2014.

The 911 Turbo and Turbo S cabriolets are mechanically identical to the coupe, which means the 911 turbo cabriolet is powered by a 388kW 3.8 flat-six engine and the S derivative capable of 418kW. The cars rocket from 0-100km/h in 3.5 and 3.2sec respectively and on to 318km/h.

The range-topping cabriolets, set to arrive in South Africa in February 2014, coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 911 and the 40th anniversary of the Turbo moniker.

Porsche’s 918 Spyder boasts a hybrid engine capable of 661kW and is able to accelerate from 0 – 100km/h 2.8 seconds. According to the automaker, fuel consumption is rated at 2.6 litres/100km.
