Toyota's Aygo goes (semi)-topless

LONDON, England - Fiat's 500 has it and so does Citroen's DS3. Now Toyota has joined the band wagon of open-air motoring with a canvas roof for its little city car... meet the Aygo-X.

Toyota claims its new retractable X-Wave canvas roof is sure to provide some classic open-air fun. And, if SA's summer heat is anything to go by, this accessory on the five-door Aygo X-Pression model will be a winner. Unless the sun is overhead, of course...

HEADED FOR SA

Toyota South Africa says the X-Wave is destined to arrive here but neither date nor price is available yet.

The factory-fitted roof is black and and full-length so even those in the rear seats can enjoy a wind-in-the-hair experience, says the automaker. The roof is power-operated using a simple switch next to the map-light control in the headlining and folds back concertina-style.

Other specifications include 15" alloy rims, front foglights, projector headlights with daytime running lights, an X-Touch multimedia system with DAB and Bluetooth, reversing camera and aircon.

Gloss black elements on the body and in the cabin help the small car make its big style statement, contrasting with white, grey, silver, red or blue paint options.

In the UK, the X-Wave roof costs the equivalent of R15 600 and can be ordered with the X-Tra convenience pack and with all other options and customisation features available for the X-Pression model, apart from the roof decals.

Obviously... and here it is with the to drawn back.
