Porsche’s new Cayenne Turbo S assumes top position in the Porsche SUV model range with its 405kW of engine power.

Described by the automaker as "a top athlete in SUV clothing”, the latest Cayenne derivative is fitted with a complex active chassis but features equipment familiar to the SUV range such as off-road capabilities and a high seating position.

TURBO ON STEROIDS

According to Porsche, its fuel consumption of 11.5 litres/100km is the same as that of the Cayenne Turbo despite the Turbo S carrying 38kW more than the Cayenne Turbo and its torque boosted from 700 to 750Nm.

Thanks to its increased output, the Turbo S also accelerates faster – 0-100km/h in 4.5sec – and has a higher top speed (283km/h). The turbo accelerates to 100km/h in 4.7sec and has a top speed of 278km/h.

The Cayenne Turbo S is configured for maximum dynamic performance so comes with a number of control systems. From the Cayenne Turbo it takes the combination of air suspension and Porsche active suspension management shock-absorber control.

Then there is dynamic chassis control which reduces roll through curves and improves agility and comfort, the automaker said. Torque vectoring Plus (sends power to wheels that need it) is also standard along with an electronically controlled rear differential lock, to improve traction.

The new Cayenne Turbo S is also equipped with a sport chrono package.

As for its appearance, the Cayenne Turbo S gets top billing with its air inlet screens, headlight housings and mirror parts painted in gloss black and standard 21” 911 Turbo II wheels with coloured Porsche badges designed exclusively for the Cayenne Turbo S.

There are two-tone interior leather packages in new colours and patterns - black/carrera red or black/luxor beige colour combinations with contrasting seams - designed specifically for the new Cayenne Turbo S. A carbon interior package is also on offer to complement the leather finishes.

The Cayenne Turbo S will be available in South Africa from the first quarter of 2013, Porsche Centre SA said. Pricing is still to be confirmed.
