It’s summer. You’re busy. Running late for appointments is not an option. Thanks goodness for the new S5 Cabriolet.
Audi’s handsome A5 soft-top is now available with some serious performance hardware in S5 trim, borrowing the supercharged 3l V6 engine from the S4.
Boasting 245kW and 440Nm the S5 Cabriolet is an outstandingly swift soft-top conveyance, able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds.
As befits its ‘S’ designation, the S5 features sports suspension (including a 30mm ride height reduction) as standard. A variety of optional dynamics enhancements are available too, which include an active sport rear differential, Audi drive select, damper control and dynamic steering.
Unlike the S4 sedan (which shares the same engine) S5 will not be available with a six-speed manual transmission, offering only Audi’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission instead.
From a utility perspective the S5 Cabriolet retains 320l of usable bootspace even with the canvas top retracted.
There’s even a neat LED powered vanity mirror - we’re not joking, it’s Audi remember, LEDs are everywhere...
All things considered teh new S5 Cabriolet is a compelling package, despite being down on power (and acoustic appeal) compared to it's fixed-roof S5 V8 siblings.
Then again, you do get a rather good seven-speed DCT transmission (instead of a six-speeder) and the option of an active rear differential...
