PRETORIA – Land Rover’s most dynamic model, the Range Rover Sport, gains a new variant in SA - the Range Rover Sport HST.

The HST is powered by a revised 3.0 litre supercharged V6 petrol capable of 280kW/450Nm, 30kW more than the current supercharged V6. The HST also receives unique chassis settings and design tweaks.

STEALTH MODE

It has a black exterior theme and unique interior enhancements. The HST is fitted with 'Stealth Pack' lights (front and rear) with non-reflective surrounds. It has a black roof, new spoiler, grey 21" alloy rims, uprated 20" brake discs with red calipers. Larger 22" alloys are available as an option.

The bonnet and front wing vents, grille and foglights has gloss black trim with ‘Range Rover’ badging on the  bonnet and tailgate. Body-coloured door panels and additional vent details on the bumpers are also fitted.

According to Land Rover: "Unique chassis settings deliver an even more focused driving experience and sharper responses, without compromising the vehicle’s trademark comfort and refinement. Detail changes to the suspension reduce body roll and deliver enhanced agility."

The HST has, Land Rover says, a unique Terrain Response setup with a dynamic mode to optimise suspension, electric power assisted steering (EPAS) and other electronic systems to suit on-road driving.

Inside, the HST has dual-tone leather seats and black trim  for the doors, centre console and roof. Leather upholstery is available in four colour combinations.

HST badging is on the dashboard, floor mats and instrument panel. The new SUV has paddle-shifts on the steering wheel, sport pedals and aluminium details throughout.

OFF-ROAD 'CRUISE CONTROL'

The Range Rover Sport's All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) is now available for all SDV8 variants. Dubbed "cruise control for off-road", this system allows drivers set a speed with which they are comfortable – ranging from 1.8km/h to 30km/h – with only steering input needed. The system will optimise traction and drivetrain settings.

New features for the range include an improved camera system for, the automaker says, "crisper graphics and enhanced clarity", inlcuding the rear-junction view to improve visibility while reversing. An integrated washer jet for the rear camera ensures clarity in poor road conditions.

The new gesture tailgate allows hands-free access to the luggage area - sensors in the rear bumper use foot gestures to open the rear tailgate. Placement of the sensors allows this to be achieved from either side of the vehicle.

Further automation includes auto access height (previously manually controlled) which lowers the vehicle once parked. Depending on conditions the system will lower the vehicle by as much as 50mm.
