Toyota's third-generation Prius is in South Africa with a facelifted design and offering buyers a lot more kit than the outgoing model. The Japanese automaker has tweaked the front design of its best-selling hybrid with a new bumper and lower grille.
The front now sports LED's and the daytime lights have been relocated in the bumper beneath the turn indicators. The rear lights have been updated and the model sports new wheelcaps for the 15" wheels. The style upgrades add 20mm to the vehicle's length.
The Prius will still be powered by the now well-lnown 1.8 VVT-i hybrid engine (power capped at 100kW) and is capable of a combined fuel consumption of only 3.9 litres/100km.
FEATURES APLENTY
Under its metallic skin, Toyota's stiffened the suspension and improved steering. Additional sound-proofing material has been added to reduce road noise.
The cabin has been tweaked and dark materials with silver inserts added to the fascia, centre console and air vents... even the start/stop button receives blue backlighting.
The driver's seat now has partial power adjustment and front seat warmers are standard. Speaking of standard kit, the new Prius comes packed with creature comforts; new touchscreen system, voice recognition, head-up display, eight-speaker audio system and auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
Other features include keyless entry (with remote aircon) and auto park assist.
