Powering the latest entrant to the S Quattro series is the Volkswagen Group’s new 2.0-litre TFSI capable of 170kW/370Nm, mated to a short-shift six-speed manual. The engine enables the S1 to rocket to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds and on to 250km/h.

Fuel consumption is rated at a claimed 5.8 litres/100km with CO2 emissions of 162g/km.

Like all Audi S models, the S1 and the S1 Sportback derivates have quattro all-wheel drive. Its electronic stability control system incorporates an electronic differential lock with wheel-selective torque control.

In terms of design the S1 benefits from  xenon headlights and diode rear lights with new horizontal graphics. An optional quattro exterior styling package incorporating a spoiler will also be available.

The cabin has air vents finished in black, instruments in grey, and control pedals trimmed in stainless steel.

Sports seats with combination cloth and leather are standard, as are creature comforts including auto aircon, a six-speaker audio system (with aux and SD card reader) linked to a 16.5cm colour display, Bluetooth and a driver’s information system.

An optional Quattro styling package adds a choice of three colours (black, red or yellow) for sections of the backrest, a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel in silver, red or yellow, door armrests in black leather, black air vents with a red ring and a choice of black, red or yellow trim for the centre console.
