Spy images reveal EV-type wheels and tyres, no exhaust or grille and a (covered) charging-socket near the headlights.
The front-wheel drive Soul EV prototype is powered by an 81kW/284Nm electric motor with a claimed range of 193km. The vehicle accelerates from 0-100km/h in less than 12 seconds and on to a top speed of 144km/h.
The vehicle recycles back into the battery the energy generated while the car is coasting and braking.
VIRTUAL ENGINE NOISE
For pedestrian safety the Soul EV will be equipped with a cirtual engines sound system that emits an audio alert at speeds below 20km/h and whenever the MPV is in reverse.
Kia USA’s executive director of product planning, Orth Hedrick, said: “The new Soul EV will be at the forefront of Kia's 'Clean Mobility' programme which aims to provide environmentally friendly vehicles around the world when it goes on sale globally.
"Although it will be Kia's first globally sold all-electric vehicle, the Soul EV is our second-generation battery electric vehicle and significantly benefits from the in-depth knowledge gained during development of the Ray EV sold in Korea."
The Kia Soul EV is expected to be launched later in 2014.
