SA’s Cheapest Brand New Car to Sell for 99c

AutoTrader launch #99cNewCar online frenzy

On July 20, AutoTrader hit the ignition on an epic quest in South Africa’s online community. Their competition’s advert for a mystery car, hidden under a tantalising red sheet, went live on AutoTrader.co.za with the caption "Buy a brand new car for 99c (T&C’s apply)".

News of South Africa’s cheapest brand new car pushed the internet into overdrive. Thousands joined the hunt to guess the new car’s identity and to stand a chance to buy it.

“The #99cNewCar fits into tight spaces with ease” tweeted the AutoTrader team, dropping the first of a 28 clue series forming the core of the competition.

CLUES REVEALED ON TWITTER

AutoTrader will reveal one clue via Twitter daily, allowing fans to build a profile of the car. At the end of the 28-day clue hunt, a ‘buy now’ button will be activated on the competition page.

Clicking on it and filling in the answers puts hopefuls into a draw to be part of the thrilling finale. Hosted on SABC3’s Expresso morning show, finalists will compete for the chance to buy a brand new ‘out the box’ car for just 99c.

The first week of the competition received an avalanche of tweets as South Africa got guessing. By that Friday five new specs had been revealed along with the promise of a tougher string of challenges to come. As it stands the mystery machine is confirmed to be a hatchback; has a USB input; a forward located engine; and is a five door, passenger car.

The #99cNewCar campaign has been carefully crafted by AutoTrader to highlight another milestone in the company’s history. In June, AutoTrader added over 6 000 new cars  to the over 60 000 used cars already available on their website. Alongside the new car offering, the website now boasts a range of innovative new tools - all crucial when it comes to guessing the mystery specs.

Comparative shopping technology allows buyers to view up to four different makes and models side-by-side across multiple specs, as well as between new and past models.  An all new content hub puts a large amount of buying and selling information in one place. Including specialist videos and articles, South African car buyers are now able to drastically cut down the time it takes to find and buy a new car.

With these innovations, AutoTrader continue to lead South Africa’s online motor industry; masterfully living up to their ‘trusted motoring marketplace’ motto.
