The Tiida, which is built at Nissan's Rosslyn factory northwest of Pretoria, replaces the Almera.
The hatch line-up includes three five-door options: 1.6 Visia+, 1.6 Acenta with five-speed manual transmissions and the 1.8 Acenta, with a six-speed manual transmission.
The sedan derivatives include the 1.6 Visia five-speed manual, 1.6 Visia+ five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, Acenta 1.6 five-speed manual and 1.8 Acenta six-speed manual.
There are two trim levels, Visia+ Acencta. The latter is a more upmarket trim.
In general the Tiida is well-equipped with all the usual luxury and safety features. All models get ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.
New aluminum engines
There are two newly developed four-cylinder aluminium engines with multi-point fuel-injection. The 1.6 litre petrol engine comes with a five-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox. This 1 598 cc engine produces 80 kW of power at 6 000 r/min and 153 Nm of torque at 4 000 r/min.
The 1.8-litre engine is driven through the only six-speed gearbox offered in its class. This 1 798cc engine delivers 95 kW at 5 200 r/min and a useful 175 Nm of torque at 4 800 r/min.
Service intervals are every 15 000 km and a three-year/90 000 km service plan is included in the price.
