Bigger boost for diesel Q7

accreditation
Audi has announced a more powerful six-cylinder 3.0 TDI motor, with 550 Nm on tap, is now available for its Q7.

The new turbodiesel engine uses a common-rail fuel injection system and piezo injectors, but is said to be more efficient than its predecessor. Audi claims the new unit should consume an average of 9.8 l/100 km.

The latest motor produces peak torque of 550 Nm of which more than 90% is available from 1 500 to 3 250 r/min. Maximum power output is 176 kW.

This Q7 has a top speed of 216 km/h and accelerates from 0 - 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.

A six-speed tiptronic gearbox transmits its power to all four wheels although bias is towards the rear wheels in general driving situations.

Audi SA has confirmed this model will join the local line-up from early next year. It will also filter down into the other ranges, including the A5 and A4 that will both be available here in 2008.
