Revised Seven sails in to SA

BMW has released the details of its latest flagship 7 Series model to arrive in South Africa.

According to BMW, the new 7 Series, as the flagship of the range, “embodies sporting elegance, refined powertrain technology and luxurious comfort in equal measure.”

CHANGES, INSIDE AND OUT

The facelift to the range includes full LED headlights featuring BMW’s signature corona rings, an upgraded interior with optimised soundproofing, improved ride comfort and updated safety equipment.

The cosmetic changes, apart from the new headlights, include a simpler kidney grille, a redesigned front apron and indicators incorporated into the lower section of the wing mirrors. At the rear, the view now includes a thin chrome strip connecting the reflectors towards the bottom of the bumper.

The cabin also sees some improvements in the form of new leather seats (two individual rear seats are optional), more sound deadening for a quieter cabin and a rear seat entertainment package with an extending centre speaker for the audio system and a 9.2” flatscreen monitor.

The extended 10.25” black-panel driver display shows graphics in 3D and instruments and graphics are now shown in different colours, depending on the driving mode selected and the function displays required.

THE POWER OF SEVEN

BMW ConnectedDrive also includes new features to turn the 7 Series cabin into the ultimate office on wheels, complete with a more powerful operating system and programs that are easier to operate and optimised office and online services.

As for its power on offer, new and revised engines available for use are said to be more economical and low on emissions.

They channel their power to the driven wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Along with more efficient powerplants and an eight-speed auto, other fuel-saving technologies in use include an auto start-stop function, brake energy regeneration and a Driving Experience Control switch with an Eco Pro mode that allows for even more fuel savings.

The new 7 Series range includes the petrol 12-cylinder 760i (400kW/750Nm), V8 750i (330kW/650Nm) and the TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder used in the 740i (235kW/450Nm). Turbodiesel fans have the run of the new 190kW/560Nm 730d, what BMW calls the most powerful inline six-cylinder diesel engine, along with its second-generation ActiveHybrid 7, which has the same output at the 740.

Ride comfort is improved via the use of an updated chassis with new dampers and a self-levelling air suspension for the rear axle for an even comfier ride.

Active safety systems for the 7 Series include Night Vision with pedestrian recognition technology, an anti-dazzle LED high-beam assist feature, lane departure warning, and cruise control with a stop and go function.
