Renault’s released another of its famous celebratory hot hatches – this time, it’s a Clio RS dubbed Red Bull Racing RB7 to celebrate its latest Formula 1 crown.

The Clio 4 was revealed at the 2012 Paris auto show and according to Reanult SA, it will be here soon with news of the Clio RS ready for action too.

Renault SA's spokesperson Danielle Melville said the Clio 4 will be here by end of May, and the RS will arrive before the end of 2013.

"The RS will be part of the standard range so there'll be enough units to go around. You're most likely to see the RS at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS)," she said.

Under the bonnet lies 1.6-litre turbo engine and a six-speed performace efficient dual clutch (EDC) transmission, good for 147kW at 6 000rpm and 240Nm from 1 750rpm to 5 500rpm.

It goes from zero to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds and weighs 36kg lighter than the previous Clio RS, as well as vast technical upgrades to keep its hot "supermini" status.

The suspension is 3mm with the optional Cup chassis which is 15% stiffer and has a quicker steering rack. The 18” Renaultsport wheels with red brake callipers are wrapped in Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres, 17” tyres are standard. Fuel consumption is also down to 4.8 litre/100km.

LOOKING THE PART

For that mean street look there’s a F1 blade front bumper, a rear spoiler and diffuser, twin exhaust pipes and side sills. Standard goods include Bluetooth, USB connectivity, a 3D Sound Arkamys audio system, 7” touchscreen for the Carminat TomTom Live navigation and App Store systems, keyless entry and start, R-Link integrated tablet with navigation and sporty front seats.

As the norm with RS models, there’s the sport and race modes to choose from when driving. And because hot hatches need to be quick off the line – the launch control system is also standard.

To keep the over enthusiastic driver at bay, the system is constantly monitored by the car’s electronics which may temporarily prevent it from triggering.
