Renault adds Mégane CC turbo and GT

accreditation
Renault has broadened the Mégane range with a turbocharged version of the CC and a five-door GT performance hatch.

Both new models feature the same 2-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, essentially a detuned version of engine found in the mad R26 and sport hot hatch models.

Although the 2-litre turbocharged CC is virtually indistinguishable from the naturally aspirated 2.0 Dynamique it replaces, the GT hatch is an altogether more sedate blend of performance styling compared to its mad R26 and F1 team siblings.

An aerodynamic package consisting of a bumper with an integrated, lower front airdam, extended sills and a rear spoiler endow the hatchback with a lower stance, while the front grille surrounds are highlighted in chrome.

The standard 16-inch aluminium alloy wheels feature a dark metallic finish, but 17-inch rims with the same finish are available as an option. The rear apron features twin, centrally mounted exhaust tailpipes with a dark metallic surround and embossed 'GT' graphics.

Turbo engine profiled for driveability

Profiled for driveability instead of rev-limiter challenging performance, the 2-litre turbo engine produces 120kW at 5000r/min and 270Nm of torque at 3250r/min. Revised engine mapping and a specially developed, twin-scroll turbocharger boost operating efficiency an reduce turbo lag.

Bothe CC and GT models transfer power via a six-speed manual gearbox, and with 0-100km/h sprint times of 8.7 and 8.3 seconds respectively and a similar topspeed of 220km/h performance is brisk, if not manic.

Tauter suspension all-round

To cope with the increase in performance the CC has a stiffened rear anti-roll bar, while both the front and rear suspension settings are firmer too.

The GT has been tuned to strike a balance between taut responses and plain ride characteristics, with Renault's engineers focussed on body support and front axle efficiency. Subsequently the GT's suspension has been lowered by 10 mm, while the front and rear spring rates are 24 percent stiffer.

From a comfort and convenience perspective the CC boasts an cargo volume of 490-litres with the roof raised - with the roof stowed available luggage space remains a useful 190-litres. Available options exclusive to the GT are leather interior trim and GT specific ESP.

Both new Mégane models carry a five year/150 000km warranty and 60 000km full maintenance plan indicative of Renaults keenness to keep customers at ease when purchasing performance products.
