Chinese automaker GWM has bolstered its South African H6 SUV range with a City derivative, entry-level wheels that borrow much from its H5 City sibling in terms of trim.
The only omission from the more expensive H6 derivatives are its roof rails. Oh yes, and a proper chassis and rear-wheel drive.
The new SUV measures 4.6m long, 1.8m wide and 1.6m tall, with a wheelbase of 2.6m and ground clearance of 180mm and moves courtesy of a 1.5 turbopetrol engine that claims 105kW/210Nm and a six-speed manual gearbox. Fuel consumption is listed as 8.5 litres/100km.
LOADS OF KIT
It's equipped with 17" alloy rims, colour-coded trim and rear privacy glass. The H5 City has a body-on-frame construction with rear-wheel drive but the H6 City rides on a unibody platform and has front-wheel drive.
The City has power-assisted steering, power windows (all-round) and side-mirrors, rear parking radar, two air bags, anti-lock brakes with electronic pressure distribution and IsoFix child-seat anchors. It's also equipped with air con and a radio/CD/USB/aux audio system.

GWM SA brand manager Hannes Oosthuizen said: "The H6 City is an expression of our commitment to offering unbeatable value - a completely modern, spacious and luxurious SUV that, for R259 900, can't be rivalled for value.
"We urge customers to do the 'sit-behind-yourself' test with the H6 to experience its spaciousness."
The H6 City is sold with a five-year or 100 000km warranty and two-years of 24-hour AA roadside assistance. A five-year or 60 000km service plan is optional.
