STUTTGART, Germany - Porsche, testing its foray into green-friendly supercars, has set a remarkable time at Germany's Nürburgring with its 2013 hybrid project.
A Porsche 918 Spyder prototype set a time of 7min14 on the 20.6km circuit though there is still a year to go before it reaches car showrooms, a dynamic performance for a plug-in hybrid.
STANDING START
Frank Walliser, project leader for the 918 Spyder, said: “By turning in such a fabulous time of the 918 Spyder prototype has already fully confirmed the viability of the concept after just a few months on the road.”
The lap time was one of the best clocked for street-legal vehicles with standard production tyres.
The course was only available to the development team from Weissach for one lap and it had to be started from stationary.
