MARANELLO, Italy – Ferrari will debut its most most powerful convertible yet at the October 2014 Paris auto show - the 458 Speciale A (A stands for stands for Aperta - 'open' in English).

The special edition 458 will be limited to 499 buyers - the original number was a nice round 450 but then the orders rolled in. Ferrari says the car has its most powerful, non-turbo, road-going V8 engine yet.

It’s capable of 445kW/540Nm and drives through a seven-speed twin-clutch paddleshift transmission and the rear wheels. Which translates, Ferrari says, to a three-second 0-100km/h sprint and 9.5sec to 200km/h.

'PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED'

The V8's three Best Performance Engine awards are acknowledged on a special plaque in the cabin.

The car's aluminum retractable top puts 50kg into the car's total weight of 1340kg; it can be raised or lowered  in 14 seconds.

Ferrari coos: “As is the case with all Prancing Horse cars, the 458 Speciale A's sculpted forms are absolutely performance orientated. A series of innovative and original bodywork solutions has made the car the most aerodynamically efficient Ferrari spyder yet.

"This limited series is a celebration of the successes of various versions of the 458, a model that has collected an array of track victories, among them two World Endurance championships and category wins in classic endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.”

The 458 Speciale A sports a unique yellow livery as well as five-spoked forged wheel rims. The interior has a race-inspired theme with light materials throughout, such as blue carbon-fibred panels and new Alcantara sports seats with contrasting stitching.
