New 1.4-litre engine and diesel power for Astra range

With the addition of three new GTC models and two five door derivatives, customers can now choose from ten distinct Astra models with a choice of seven traditional five-door hatch models and three GTC three-door derivatives.

New in the Astra five door range is the latest generation TWINPORT ECOTEC engine for the 1.4 litre Essentia base model.

Opel's TWINPORT technology was previously only available in the 1.6 litre engine in South Africa and its introduction as a 1.4 litre unit introduces a new level of fuel efficiency to the entry level Astra.

Also new is a diesel model featuring an 88 kW CDTI engine with 280Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed transmission. This latest model will become available in July.

In five-door configuration the Astra there is a choice of 1.4 litre, 1.6 litre, and 1.8 litre normally aspirated petrol engines as well as a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine and the new 1.9 CDTI diesel engine.

Three equipment levels, Essentia, Enjoy, and Sport are offered depending on engine capacity.

The Essentia level is available in 1.4 and 1.6 litre models, the Enjoy level is available as a 1.6 litre with 5-speed manual transmission and as a 1.8 litre model with 4-speed automatic transmission.

This specification level is also applied to the 1.9 CDTI diesel variant. The Sport specification is available in 1.8 and 2.0 litre (turbo) engine sizes.

    Service intervals on all Astra derivatives is 15 000 kilometres. A 5 year/100 000 kilometre maintenance plan is included in the purchase price of all derivatives except the base model Astra 1.4 Essentia.
