LUTON, England– Opel has launched a 1.6 CDTi stop/start diesel engine in the Zafira Tourer MPV.
It's part of the brand's new family of four-cylinder diesel engines and will debut at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show on March 5.

UK chairman and MD Duncan Aldred said: “Vauxhall (the UK name for Opel) continues to develop its award-winning model range with new and exciting technology. This new powertrain is the cleanest diesel engine in our 110-year history.”
The company says the engine comes with BlueInjection selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology that meets the strict Euro 6 emissions regulations. It’s apparnetly not just clean but also has some nice power figures: 100kW and 320Nm of torque with a claimed combined fuel consumption of 4.1 litres/100km with 109g/km CO2.
Zero to 100: 10.2 seconds.
Parent company General Motors designed the engine using closed-loop combustion control and an aluminium block, enabling low noise, vibration and harshness.
The Zafira Tourer’s line-up now includes five diesel units -including a new high performance 2.0 BiTurbo CDTi engine with 143kW - and two petrol engines.
Opel South Africa said there are no plans to bring the engine just now as most of their products, such as the Meriva and Astra, currently don't have any diesel versions.
