Subaru's fifth-generation Outback will arrive in South Africa in March 2015. The new crossover sports a number of upgrades, among them new styling, more space, better cabin and more crash protection.
The automaker adds that the new Outback will remain in the same price bracket as the outgoing version with prices starting at R479 000, "despite a generous standard specification".
Powering the new Outback will be a new 3.6-litre six-cylinder petrol, existing two-litre turbodiesel and 2.5-litre non-turbo petrol. Each drives a Lineartronic constantly variable transmission and all-wheel drive.
X-MODE, AUTO TAILGATE
It's equipped with "active torque vectoring" for more dynamic handling and an X-Mode suite of off-road driving aids. The new crossover has an auto tail door and roof rails which can convert to lateral bars.
There's a new grille, aero profile and rugged body mouldings. The cabin has been entirely redesigned and, Subaru claims, "it's roomier than before and the overall ambience is engaging and more refined".
Subaru Southern Africa's marketing manager, Ashley Lazarus, said: "The Outback continues to define the segment which it created in 1994, combining wagon and SUV like no other.
"It remains a trend-setter when it comes to overall capability but the move upmarket will add a new level of sophistication befittinga premium crossover."
