TOKYO, Japan - The next-generation Mazda2 will make its debut with the automaker’s SkyActiv-D 1.5 – a new 1.5-litre ‘clean diesel’ engine.
The engine was unveiled at the 2014 Geneva auto showin April alongside the Mazda Hazumi concept (the basis for the all-new Mazda2) and shares much with its 2.2-litre sibling used in the CX-5, Mazda6 and Mazda3.
LEAN-BURN RANGE
The turbocharged 1.5 is capable of 77kW/250Nm and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or auto with stop/start technology and brake energy regeneration.
No fuel consumption figures have been released.
According to Mazda, its 1.5 diesel has “expanded homogenous lean-burn range, even less mechanical resistance, and new insulation technology to counter the increased cooling loss associated with a smaller engine ".
Mazda South Africa cannot confirm when the new 2 will arrive locally - Newspress.
