LOS ANGELES, California - Rolls-Royce has announced the name of its next new car, a convertible which, the automaker says, "is like no other Rolls-Royce to date".
Meet the Rolls-Royce Dawn...
The automaker made the announcement to representatives from its 130-strong global dealer network at the 2015 Rolls-Royce world dealer conference in Los Angeles, California on May 12 2015.
'STRIKING, SEDUCTIVE ENCOUNTER'
Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Rolls CEO, said: “Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date. It will be the most social of super-luxury cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hot spots.”
The Dawn, the automakers says, is the next step in the renaissance of Rolls-Royce cars which began in 2003 with the launch of the Phantom and subsequent introductions of the Ghost and Wraith.
Mueller-Oetvoes said: "It justifies the continuing investment of the BMW Group into the world’s pinnacle super-luxury brand."
FIRST USED IN 1949
The new car has revived a famous and rare Rolls-Royce moniker first used in 1949 - Silver Dawn - but until now applied only to 28 very special drophead bodies assembled from1950-54. "It was", Rolls says, "a new beginning for Rolls-Royce at that time. The original Silver Dawn was the first Rolls-Royce to be offered with a factory-built body.
"The drophead Rolls-Royces that carried the name Dawn continued to be coach-built for individual customers, ensuring their uniqueness and rarity.
"Like Eleanor Thornton, thought by many to be the inspiration behind the Spirit of Ecstasy bonnet adornment, the Rolls-Royce Dawn will also prove itself to be the muse that leads its owner to believe that at the start of the day, anything is possible."
The Dawn will break on the market during the first quarter of 2016.
