New engine for SA Citroen C3

Citroen’s C3 hatchback has been given a new engine, facelift and tweaked cabin.

A three-cylinder 1.2 capable of 60kW/118Nm replaces the 1.4 engine, driving through a five-speed manual gearbox. Fuel consumption is rated at 4.7 litres/100km with CO2 emissions at 109g/km (25% less than the 1.4 and below the tax threshhold).

The existing 88kW/160Nm 1.6 VTi and diesel 68 kW/230Nm HDi 90 engines continue.

Citroen continues its a three-tier trim structure: Attraction, Seduction and Exclusive, the last is also available with a four-speed auto.

STYLE TWEAKS

New bumper-mounted LEDs as daytime running lights have been added to Seduction and Exclusive models. More prominent chevrons reached the edges of the headlights have been added. A deeper front air intake with honeycomb mesh makes it more recognisable with its siblings.

A chromed strip has been added to the tail lights which now adopt “distinctive pockets” for each light.

According to Citroen, “The new C3 has a cabin which is even more appealing on a tactile and sensory level – areas where Citroën is proud to continue with its desire to cater for the needs of the heart and not just the head.”

Metalic finishes highlight specific controls and a new dashboard strip available in two colours has been added. The upholstery has been upgraded with “three distinct textures.”

‘MAJOR STEP FORWARD’

Citroen South Africa’s general manager of marketing, Grant Bowring, said: “We believe there is no reason why a B-segment hatchback shouldn’t have the ability to excite, and to create an emotional connection with the driver.

“With these changes it certainly does that, and on an objective level the addition of the 1.2 engine is especially significant as it represents a major step forward in powertrain technology. With a special launch price on this Attraction model of R149 900 the Citroën C3 remains an exciting and affordable alternative in its segment.”

Exclusive models can be ordered with a reversing camera, park distance sensors and a satnav. The Exclusive specification boasts six airbags, the Seduction four, and the Attraction a two.

All models include Anti-lock braking system with Electronic brakeforce distribution,  IsoFix, and side impact protection.

Citroen’s facelifted C3 squares up to Renault's Clio, Ford’s Fiesta, VW's Polo and the Korean offerings of Hyundai’s i20 and Kia’s Rio.
