CAPE TOWN, Western Cape - 2016 is set to be a monumental year for Toyota, with two new versions of its popular Hilux.

The new Fortuner will also be introduced in 2016 after spy pictures surfaced on a Thai Facebook page devoted to the new Fortuner.

Toyota South Africa says the new Fortuner  - which will make its global debut on Thursday (July 16) - will arrive here in early 2016 "after the Hilux".

BACKS AGAINST THE WALL

The next Hilux and Fortuner will have its work cut out as a new Ford Ranger and Everest are due to be released towards the end of 2015 and should pose a formidable challenge to the Japanese duo.

Based on the leaked images, the new Fortuner has redesigned lights in the front and rear, while a large chromed grille adds a touch of Rav4 to the front-end.
