As Subaru prepares to release its all-new Forester in Japan on November 14, 2012 we have some info to whet fans’ appetites ahead of its South African launch in 2013.
The fourth-generation Forester SUV will again be fitted with Subaru’s all-wheel drive turned by a range of engines and transmissions.
HARD-WORKING FAMILY SUV
According to Subaru, the latest Forester has a high level of handling and stopping capabilities in a range of conditions, better safety features and greener environmental credentials.
The five-seater will also have a more spacious cabin (despite having virtually the same footprint as the model it replaces) with more rear legroom and a bigger boot. Convenience features will include an infotainment system with smartphone integration, satnav, a new reversing camera and a Harmon Kardon audio system.
The Subaru will make its debut in its home market, Japan, on November 13, 2012 before being rolled out in other markets around the globe. It will reach South Africa in the second quarter of 2013.
Engines confirmed for South Africa include a 126kW 2.5-litre boxer petrol engine carried over from the current Forester range and a new 187kW two-litre direct-injection turbo – also a flat four. The 2.5 will initially be optionally available with a constantly variable transmission; the turbo will be offered only with the CVT.
A 110kW two-litre turbodiesel will also be available again though slightly delayed according to the availability of the CVT. It will also be available with a six-speed manual gearbox.
