New Range Rovers for SA in 2014

Land Rover wants to reach more customers, so they’re making cooler cars and extending the Range Rover line-up. 2014 will see the first Range Rover long wheelbase model in 20 years and the new Autobiography Black. What’s more, it’s coming to SA!

LONDON, England - Land Rover is to extend its customer appeal with ta new long wheelbase Range Rover and an exclusive specification Autobiography Black model. First deliveries will be in March 2014 for the long-wheelbase and August 2014 for the Autobiography Black.

Land Rover South Africa says both models will arrive here by the end of 2014.

BIGGER IS BETTER

The LWB Range Rover will be the first in 20 years since the LSE between 1992 and 1994. Rear legroom is 14cm longer and there’s a clever seating packing - either bench or individual ‘executive class’ rear seats which can recline 17 degrees further. There’s also the 'passenger seat away' function which allows the front seat to slide forward for extra space.

Convenience goodies include electric side blinds and a sunroof. A small  'L' badge is mounted on the front wheel arches to set it apart from the standard models.

The Autobiography Black will make its debut at the 2013 Dubai auto show in November 2013 and, according to the automaker, “it represents the pinnacle of desirability to bring even higher levels of refinement to the world’s finest luxury SUV”.

Jaguar Land Rover’s group marketing director Phil Popham said: “With the addition of the Range Rover long wheelbase to our portfolio of luxury SUV's, customers can now choose a vehicle that offers superior levels of interior space and comfort to compete in a market dominated by saloon cars.

“The Autobiography Black is our most luxurious specification. It epitomises sophisticated design with immaculate attention to detail. The subtle, elegant and luxurious finishing touches combine with a first-class experience for driver and passengers to deliver new levels of exclusivity.”

The LWB will be unveiled in Los Angeles on November 20 and at the Guangzhou auto show in China on November 21 as Autobiography and Autobiography Black models. A hybrid derivative will be available later in 2014 but Land Rover SA says no hybrid “until the quality of our fuel improves”.

SUBTLE BUT DISTINCTIVE

Design changes include a unique finish on the grille and side vents and badging in black enamel and chrome. Signature rear lights and auxiliary front vents complement the chrome-accented tailgate.

There’s a unique seat cover design on the "executive class" seating package with an extended centre console and large 26cm screens for the rear passengers. The rear centre console includes power deployable tables covered in black leather with USB charging sockets and cupholders. There’s also a fridge for glasses and bottles.

The front leather seats include massage functions and 18-way adjustability. Rear passengers get lumbar massage and powered recline, a calf rest and privacy glass.

More comfort treats include LED mood lighting in10 colours, a leather-wrapped parcel shelf and three upholstery colour combinations, with two more to follow.
