VWSA has bolstered its Golf 6 lineup with the addition of a 77-kW 1.6 TDI model and its new seven-speed DSG.
The 1.6-litre common rail unit features high pressure direct fuel injection and is fitted with a diesel particulate filter. 15 000-km service intervals apply.
The new motor produces 77 kW at 4 400 r/min and has a peak torque figure of 250 Nm available between 1 500 to 2 500 r/min. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard while, for the first time in South Africa, Volkswagen also offers its new seven-speed DSG transmission.
VWSA reckons its new TDI is able to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds and hit a top end of 189 km/h.
Fuel consumption for the manual is claimed at 4.5 l/100 km, while 4.7 l/100 km is quoted for the DSG.
Comfortline specification applies to the 1.6 TDI and the car comes standard with an eight-speaker audio system with MP3 functionality, 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and power windows, amongst other features. A host of options are also available.
As with the rest of the Golf 6 range, the latest turbodiesel model is sold with a five-year/90 000 km service plan and a three-year/120 000 km warranty.
