New Ford Figo in SA: New design, engines and a sedan

  • New Figo hatch and Sedan
  • 1.5-litre petrol & diesel engines
  • Available in SA from 'middle October'

Pretoria - Ford is looking to build on the success of its sub-B compact car offering with the launch of its all-new Figo in SA.

The Figo uses the automaker's Kinetic 2.0 design language, seen in the latest Fusion and Focus. The front end features a trapezoidal grille, raked bonnet and elongated headlights.

The five-door hatch incorporates a rising roofline with a rear spoiler.

Intelligent interior

Ford has gone big with storage in the Figo and the new model boasts 20 smart storage spaces and convenience features.

This includes bottle holders in both front doors that can hold a 1.5 litre and a 1.0 litre bottle at the same time, a cubbyhole big enough to fit a laptop and three cup holders for front seat occupants.

With the rear seats folded down, 445 litres of luggage space is available in the boot of the all-new Figo Sedan. The seats of the hatchback model (Trend and Titanium) boast a 60/40 split to make transporting items easier.

Petrol and diesel engines

The Figo uses two four-cylinder 1.5 litre engines: a 77kW/138Nm petrol and 74kW/215Nm diesel. The petrol version has a claimed fuel consumption of 5.6 litres/100km, the diesel unit is capable of 4.1 litres/100km.

Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual while a six-speed PowerShift Auto is available for the 1.5 Titanium (both hatchback and sedan).

Sync your Figo

MyFord, a first-in-class feature (standard in Ambiente and Trend), offers drivers a platform for storing, mounting and charging mobile devices, MP3 players and is equipped with satnav. When not in use, the dock can be closed out of sight.

One step up on the infotainment ladder is Ford SYNC, the firm's advanced in-car connectivity system, standard on Titanium models.

MyKey

To encourage responsible driving, the Figo Titanium features Ford's MyKey functionality.

Ford marketing manager Tracey Delate explains: "With MyKey, Figo owners can set sensible restrictions for drivers with less experience. For instance, they can activate a maximum speed limit, or a persistent seatbelt minder that mutes the audio system volume and continues to play a chime until front-seat occupants fasten their seatbelts."

Safe and in command

On the safety front there are driver and passenger airbags across the range, while the Titanium model features six airbags including side and curtain airbags.
