New Citi Golf models hit SA

2004-10-25 14:21

VW says that the VeloCiTi takes the sporty theme to new heights with a classy interior package that will appeal to the Citi's traditionally young market.

While maintaining its classic Golf shape, the interior has been furnished with luxurious upholstery, a fair application of leather and good quality cloth finishes to please even the most hard-nosed buyers.

The new interior comes in either black or silver, with both colours complimenting the new sports package extremely well.

The dashboard, already hugely improved at the end of 2003, gets a further facelift with a classy onyx finish, silver dials and vents that add to the racy ambience of the cockpit.

The pedals are also silver while the steering wheel is similar to that of the Lupo GTI, which is popular among young buyers in Germany.

Its three spokes provide enough space for the driver to see all the dials and gauges, while its leather grip makes driving much more of a pleasure than it has ever been.

Front bucket seats provide the necessary support in tight corners, while fitting in well with the motorsport-inclined interior. Safety belts are silver, and so are the foot pedals.

The VeloCiTi gets floor mats that have silver linings to underline the sporty nature of the car, while the gear lever harks back to the days of the original GTI, with a silver gearknob.

Stepping outside the VeloCiTi brings all these interior changes into perspective. 15-inch alloy wheels are standard, shod with low profile 195R55 tyres.

Their low profile and large diameter give the VeloCiTi a squat aggressive stance.

Twin-pipe exhausts and smoked taillights complete the exterior sportiness of the car.

Remote central locking with an alarm is standard for both the 1.4i and 1.6i, with a standard gear lock providing extra security.

Disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear provide active driving safety.

The VeloCiTi is only available from January 2005, and replaces the Citi.com and Citi Life.

Like all Volkswagens, it comes with a standard 3 year/120 000 km warranty and a six year anti-corrosion warranty.

Volkswagen's 5 year/60 000km AutoMotion maintenance plan is available as an option.
