Previously, the 6-litre V12 was only available in the long-wheel base 760Li, and now this engine is also under the bonnet of the normal 7 Series.
Displacing 5 972 cc, BMW's V12 power unit develops maximum output of 327 kW at 6 000 r/min, with maximum torque of 600 Nm at a moderate 3 950 r/min.
And indeed, no less than 500 Nm is maintained consistently throughout the wide speed range from 1 500 to 6 000 r/min.
According to BMW the fuel consumption of the BMW 760i in the EU cycle is a just 13.4 litres/100 km.
BMW also claims that the 760i accelerates to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in less than 17 seconds. Top speed, finally, is limited electronically to 250 km/h.
To ensure "sheer driving pleasure" the entire chassis and suspension of the 7 Series, all the way to the swing callipers on the disc brakes, is made exclusively of extra-light aluminium.
It also comes with BMW's Dynamic Drive, which largely filters out bumps and unsmoothness on straight sections of the road, while almost completely suppressing any body sway in bends.
Naturally the 760i features the usual array of safety gizmos, and of course a host of comfort features.
