While BMW has denied emphatically that a production version of this Concept 1 Series tii will be made available, it nevertheless looks very promising.
Based on the 1 Series coupe that arrives in South Africa shortly in 135i and 120d guises, the concept shows a version of the baby Beemer with a definite motorsport edge.
It uses distinctive front and rear air dams and side sills while Gurney flaps produce extra downforce on the rear axle for better aerodynamics.
Extensive use of carbon fibre components also sees the concept having a significant weight reduction over the standard production version.
Motorsport-derived details include fins along the engine compartment and decal strips running along the car's roof onto the rear boot lid.
Inside the concept's cabin, sports bucket seats with integrated headrests and side airbags, a three-spoke sports steering wheel and gearshift knob finished in alcantara and dark alcantara linings for the door and instrument panels are some of the tii's special features.
This 1 Series concept is being displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show.
