It is expected that the all-new MINI will be unveiled early in 2007 when BMW will launch the successors for the current three-door and cabriolet models.
However, a five-door, roadster, pickup and wagon derivatives will follow in 2008.
Insiders hint that the next MINI will come with two wheelbase lengths and BMW will use the longwheelbase for the Clubman five-door. This model will have rear-hinged rear passenger doors and is influenced by the 1960s MINI Countryman wagon.
A three-door estate version and a two-door bakkie are also on the cards. With the pick-up model, we will see the return of the Moke badge - originally the Moke was a utilitarian, stripped-down Mini off-roader.
Another niche model to break cover is a roadster derivative featuring a removable hardtop in place of the cabrio's canvas roof.
