The first electric vehicle jointly developed between Toyota and new partner Tesla Motors will be shown in concept form at the upcoming LA auto show.Toyota and Tesla announced in May, 2010 that they would cooperate on the development of electric vehicles, production systems and engineering, and this arrangement is showing early benefits. The LA auto show RAV4 EV Concept combines the body of the RAV4, but adds an electric powertrain from Tesla. It precedes the 2012 market introduction of the production vehicle in the US. Toyota’s first-generation RAV4 EV was the first to be powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery. It was produced between 1996 and 2003 and 1900 units were sold. Specifications and details of the new RAV4 EV Concept will be revealed at the Los Angeles auto show on November 17.
