PARIS, France - Smart is continuing its series of concept vehicles and offering a glimpse of the brand's future design idiom with the Smart ForStars.

Smart's presentation in Paris is focusing on the world premiere of the electrically driven two-seater which features a video projector.

With the concept vehicle Smart ForStars the brand is targeting a group that is at home in the cities of the world. The battery-driven Smart ForStars is an SUC (sports utility coupé) with room for two people. Its name is a reference to the glass dome above the cabin which gives a clear view of a starry sky.

CAR FOR STARS

The Smart ForStars is  being premiered at the 2012 Paris auto show, a local affair for the company as the brand's production facility is located in Hambach, Lorraine.

Smart boss Dr Annette Winkler said: "The Smart is Europe's most inexpensive series-produced electric car. Not only is it emission-free and fast, it is also possible to conveniently set the perfect interior temperature in advance with a smartphone, and it's simple to charge from a domestic socket."

FORSTARS EXTERIOR

Outer rings illuminate the indicators and daytime running lights with a large number of diodes. The lights seem to push outwards like arrows.

The tail lights can be opened as the charging socket for the high-voltage battery is found inside the right-hand tail light.

The short overhangs at the front and rear make it compact and all wheels have been positioned at the far corners of the body – a typical Smart feature.

There is a convex glass coupé roof above the passengers' heads and it joins with the glass cover over the cargo area which opens upwards.

FORSTARS INTERIOR

The interior is characterised by contrasts with mother-of-pearl white combined with elements in brushed aluminium.

Electric drive – driving fun with zero local emissions

Compared to the production model of the Smart electric drive, the output of the magneto-electric motor has been increased to 59kW, giving the car an agile  performance, with 135Nm of torque. The vehicle has a top speed of of about 190km/h.

FORTWO EDITION ICESHINE

The ForTwo edition Iceshine is the latest in a long line of special models from Smart and shows once again how this two-seater can be customised. The exterior can be personalised, the interior has intricate details, and only 1800 will be assembled.

It comes with the softouch automatic gear programme, power windows, ato aircon and a skyroof with sunblind.

BRABUS ELECTRIC DRIVE

Smart is expanding its portfolio of zero-local-emission cars to include the Smart Brabus electric drive which is available as a coupé or cabrio. Its electric drive is based on the technology of the new Smart ForTwo electric drive but it delivers peak power of 59kW and maximum torque of 135Nm.

"The Smart Brabus electric drive is our sports car with a green heart", Winkler said.

The car has a dynamic look and is available in black, white or silver. Dark headlights, alloy rims and its aerodynamic body styling complete the look. Interior includes the instrument panel and interior door trims in leather, leather seats and stainless-steel sports pedals with rubber nubs.

CHARGE ANYWHERE

With the optional rapid charging function the empty battery of the Smart Brabus electric drive can be fully recharged in an hour otherwise it takes six or seven hours depending on socket source.
