The all-new Ford Mondeo is to become Ford of Europe's new flagship model and will probably find its way to South Africa too.
New Ford concept shows the next Mondeo
It is due to go on sale in Europe in the second quarter of 2007 and is expected to reach South Africa towards the end of next year.
Although the concept car is in wagon guise, there will be sedan and hatchback versions too.
The new Mondeo will the first true example of Ford's new design language, "kinetic" design.
It takes its styling cues from the Iosis concept car we first saw at Frankfurt this time last year.
Benefiting from Ford's "shared technologies" initiative, new Mondeo shares much of its architecture and technology with S-MAX and Galaxy, as well as the new Volvo S80.
According to Ford the Mondeo will feature top-notch fit and finish as the carmaker says it is investing big time in the new Mondeo's overall build quality.
A wide range of dependable Ford engines will be offered, from the powerful Ford 2.0-litre TDCi diesel and a high-performance 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, to a 1.6-litre petrol and 1.8-litre TDCi diesel engines.
