Meet Jeep’s Patriot Back Country Concept. It’s green and has wetsuit padded seats. We’re confused too. Based on the latest Patriot soft-roader, the oddly named Back Country features a redesigned interior and host of Mopar accessories. The interior redesign is primarily based on superfluous trim items such as ‘Patriot’ embossed door sills and ‘Back Country Edition’ badging affixed to the front quarter panel. For reasons nearly unfathomable there are bright, Mopar specification accelerator and brake pedal covers, and the seats have head restraints and bolsters finished in wetsuit material (smooth urethane) to absorb moisture. The rear cargo floor is made of rubber and is perfect for carrying muddy shoes or dirty, dusty gear. Ergonomics, unfortunately, continue unchanged. Exterior changes hinge on a list of Mopar accessories such as roof top cargo basket, off-road light accents and splash guards – though with its Kermit green finish you’d hardly notice some mud on the Back Country paintwork. Why a vehicle with such limited off-road ability would need a jungle friendly paintjob, rooftop cargo capacity and extra interior moisture proofing is a mystery.
