The medium-sized sedan, code named NF Sonata is going to replace the current EF generation. It cost the Korean car manufacturer about $250m to develop the car.
It is positioned against cars such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, therefore it is no surprise that it has grew bigger in every dimension: it is 4 800 mm long, 1 830 mm wide and 1 475 mm tall. The 2 730 mm wheelbase is a 30 mm stretch against the current Sonata.
At launch two engines are available: 2.0 and 2.4-litre petrol units. Former is capable of 105 kW at 6 000 r/min while the latter churns out 121 kW at 5 800 r/min.
The engines were developed by Global Engine Alliance, a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai.
Safety equipment includes Vehicle Dynamic Control, ABS.
