Iosis X to go into production in 2008
The Iosis X shares its genes the 2005 Iosis concept car, a forerunner for the all-new Mondeo.
Ford says that the Iosis X is a "deliberate link" to the company's new "kinetic design".
According to Ford The Iosis X also sends a strong message that it will be entering the crossover market in about eighteen months.
A production version of the Iosis X will go on sale in 2008 and will rival soft-roaders such as the Toyota RAV4.
The Iosis X might appear mammoth in size but it actually sits on the same platform as the Focus. This sporty SUV features dramatic styling with clamshell-like doors, similar to those of the Mazda RX-8.
Despite featuring an all-wheel-drive system the production version won't be aimed at serious mud-plugging. However, Ford claims that the vehicle's on-road driving dynamics will set new standards in its class.
There is no indication yet of engine options but it seems as if it will be launch with 2-litre petrol and diesel units. It will probably also get the Focus ST's 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine.
