A coupe-cabriolet version of the Lexus IS250 was the luxury carmaker’s highlight at the Paris Motor Show. Its three-piece folding metal roof opens and closes in 21 seconds before folding flat in the cavernous boot.
Featuring a three-panel roof, the new cabriolet shares the rest of its styling with that of the popular IS sedan. Powered by the same engines as the IS sedans, the IS 250C uses a 2.5-litre V6, while the IS 350C uses a 3.5-litre V6.
Obviously there are some tweaks to the body structure and suspension to provide good torsional stiffness and ride comfort.
The three-panel roof structure is constructed completely of lightweight aluminium. A unique roof-brake mechanism slows the closing panels as they approach the windshield area, ensuring easy retraction just before closure.
