Green and insanely styled, it’s the new Citroen C3 Picasso - and it could only be French.
Named after the most famous cubist of all time - a Spaniard no less - the Picasso blends some very interesting styling themes.
Cubism meets MPV
The ‘runny-egg’ front headlights would shame a Cayenne for proportionality, and the radically blunt rear-styling, with two light-cluster arrangements – one set in the bumper, the other near the roofline – are very out there…
Beyond unusual aesthetics the design is very neat French mini-MPV. Considering dimensions C3 Picasso is a touch over 4 metres in length, 1.73 metres wide and only 1.62 metres tall.
Clever interior
Interior flexibility is the mainstay of any MPV and the C3 Picasso can initiate a flat load space – collapsing the rear seats – with a single motion. Combined with a mobile boot floor, this function provides a completely flat loading space right up to the front seatbacks. Luggage space with all seats in place is an impressive 500-litres.
In true French tradition engines are tuned for economy and low emissions and there are four options.
Both petrol engines are VTi quipped and range from 70kW in the 1.4-litre trim to 89kW in the 1.6-litre – punters expect stop-start technology to be integrated. Turbodiesel power is from two direct-injection units, a 67kW or 82kW version of the same 1.6-litre HDi architecture.
The C3 Picasso is to debut at the Paris motor show in October and go on sale in Europe early in 2009.
