The striking next-generation Toyota Avensis is poised to make its first appearance at the Paris Motor Show. It will be flanked by production versions of the iQ and Urban Cruiser.
The all-new Avensis, with styling that (from the one picture released so far) is streets ahead of the current model, goes on sale in global markets from January next year.
It will likely feature a range of new engines that a more powerful while emitting less C02, while it will also reportedly be more refined with increased quality levels.
Unfortunately, Toyota SA is still looking into whether to offer its flagship sedan in South Africa. Stating a "shrinking segment" as the main concern, the final decision will be made by the end of 2008.
Meanwhile, sharing the Toyota flagship's Paris show stand will be production versions of the iQ city car and the compact RAV4-lookalike Urban Cruiser sporting a new 1.4-litre D-4D turbodiesel engine.
Both cars, which were shown in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, will not be offered in South Africa.
